Fort of Devagiri is located in the village Daulatabad near Aurangabad city in Maharashtra in INDIA. Daulatabad has the meaning "Prosperous city " or "Built by the government". Dulatabad fort is on the top of the hills and surrounded by unbreakable walls, gates , difficult slide ways and a deep trench. The fort got coiled secret network. This fort was impossible to approach because of the surrounding of deep trench with mechanical drawbridges and crocodiles. And that made this fort most secure fort.The fort was protected by triple rows of thick walls. To trap the intruders there was a amazing maze and that made impossible to conquer this fort.
This fort has some amazing structures like Chand Minar,Jami Masjid and palaces. The royal palaces inside the fort has big halls,pavilions and courtyards. The Chand-Minar is 30 meter high tower. The tower was built by Ala-ud-din Bahmani to celebrate the memory of his conquest and now known as Tower of victory. The minar has four storeys decorated with glazed tiles and carved motifs. It was used to be as a prayer hall ora victory monument.The jami masjid consist of 106 pillars and is well preserved monument.
At the entrance of the fort there is a cannon called "Mendha tof" as the head of this cannon resembles to sheep. Further you will see a moat which separates fort from the outer wall . The moat was filled with hungry crocodiles once upon a time. The amazing "Bhul Bhulaiya (Maze) " follows the trench and is very dark maze which has to pass to go further. The maze has some of the tricky things that anyone can slip and go directly into the trench. In the end there is a white colored structure called Moghul Pavilion and is really a nice place to hang. It is filled with cool breez all the time. If you go all the way to the flagpole you can view a beautiful panoramic view of the place.
It is one of the world’s best preserved forts and also one of the fort with excellent architecture.
The nearest place is Aurangabad from where you can get taxi or any transportation service. The fort opens at 7 am and remains open till 6 pm .Enjoy some nice guavas at the entrance (Dualatabd is famous for these guavas) and start off.
